Nathan Todd Sims: 'Echoes of Innocence'

CBN.com THE REGENT CONNECTION

Nathan Todd Sims, Clayton Coblentz, and Gina Sims joined forces to create a modern motion picture production company while Todd and Clayton were enrolled at Regent University. After completing an extensive Masters Degree portfolio that took the form of a professional business plan, New World Pictures (NWP) was officially born. After returning home to Texas, the film school grads shopped the business plan unsuccessfully and were forced to shelve the company for a few years as they built successful businesses in the Dallas area.

Sims utilized his extensive media management expertise to create one of the top video/film production companies in the Dallas area. Through their combined success, the determined filmmakers largely funded Echoes of Innocence themselves and after many years, New World Pictures began shooting its first feature project in the summer of 2003.

NWP now has 12 projects in development and is actively raising funds for additional motion picture production.

ECHOES OF INNOCENCE

Echoes is billed as “A Sexy New Teen Movie – Without the Sex!” There are a lot of movies about teenagers having sex. Now comes a romantic thriller about teens not having sex.

Echoes opens on Sept 9 on select movie screens in 34 markets across the country. The film is Todd’s feature film debut as a director. It is also the largest national opening for a graduate of Regent University. Echoes is the story of Sarah, a high school senior who has an obsession with Joan of Arc, the “Virgin Maid.” Nicknamed “Virg” for her commitment to save herself to marry her first love – who has mysteriously disappeared – she begins to see visions, just like Joan. When a journalism student expresses interest in Sarah, she confronts long-suppressed desires and begins to question her vow. This does not go unnoticed by the other students, facilitating a crisis that could destroy not only them but the whole school.

The lead role is played by Sara Simmonds, one of Hollywoods up-and-coming young actresses. Jake McDorman plays opposite her as Dave, the investigative reporter who falls for Sarah as he tries to unravel the mystery surrounding her.

Of special mention is that Todd is the first Regent director who has gotten major national distribution for a major movie, says Professor Andrew Quicke. Two other directors have gotten regional distribution, but Todd is the first with major national distribution. Also a first, Todd will give a percentage of the profits to Regent.

Todd was elected president of the Dallas Producers Association in January. He has won numerous domestic and international awards for his short film and corporate video work. He’s done projects for clients such as NASA, Nokia, and the United States Alliance and, internationally, for the Mission of Mercy in Calcutta, etc.
